    Augustana MBB: Vikings invited to compete in Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic

    BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Augustana University men's basketball was one of eight teams invited to compete in the 2017 Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic Nov. 3-4 in Evansville, Indiana. The SCB Hall of Fame Classic will be held at the Ford Center in Evansville.
    Augustana will play two games at the SCB Hall of Fame Classic. The Vikings will square-off against Southern Indiana at 6 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, before taking on Montevallo (Ala.) at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4. Ticket information will be released at a later date and will be available at
    "It is a real honor to be a part of the 2017 Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic," Augustana head coach Tom Billetersaid. "Our players will be guests at the induction ceremony of some phenomenal former Division II players, as well as legendary coach Don Meyer, which will be a memorable event for all involved. In addition to the ceremonies, the two teams we are competing against have been traditionally two of the best programs in the country and we are really looking forward to this opportunity."
    The SCB Hall of Fame Induction ceremony will precede the Hall of Fame Classic, as the induction ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Doubletree in Evansville. The 12-member Hall of Fame Class of 2017 was announced recently, and consists of the following inductees: Zelmo Beaty (Prairie View A&M), Walt Frazier (Southern Illinois), Emil Liston (Baker/NAIA), Bob Love (Southern), Coach Don Meyer (Hamline, David Lipscomb & Northern State), Coach Dave Robbins (Virginia Union), Jack Sikma (Illinois Wesleyan), Elmore Smith (Kentucky State), Jim Spivey (Southeastern Oklahoma), Rico Swanson (Bethel, IN), George Tinsley (Kentucky Wesleyan) and Al Tucker (Oklahoma Baptist).  Tables and tickets will be available through the Evansville Sports Corporation ( at a date to be determined shortly. 
    "We are very pleased to announce the details for the 2017 Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic," said Small College Basketball Founder John McCarthy. "Once again, the Classic will take place at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana, and once again, we will have some of the finest NCAA Division II basketball teams in the country participating in the Classic."
    "I sincerely congratulate the eight teams that have been selected for this unique and special event that has quickly become the finest in-season event in NCAA Division II basketball. Additionally, I'd like to sincerely thank the Division II Conference Commissioners Association and the NCAA for granting the exemption for the Hall of Fame Classic. This gesture provides tremendous credibility, and we are truly grateful." 

    Augustana men's made its 14th overall and third straight NCAA Tournament appearance in 2016-17. The Vikings finished 24-9, advancing to the NCAA Central Region Tournament semifinal for the third straight year. Augustana has won 20-plus games seven times in the last 10 years, including three straight seasons. Southern Indiana posted a 25-5 record in 2016-17 and was bounced in the first round of the NCAA Midwest Regional by Findlay. Montevallo finished 17-10 last season.

    Friday, November 3
    Session 1
    12 p.m. - Ferris State vs. St. Thomas Aquinas (STAC)
    2:30 p.m. - Indiana University – Pennsylvania (IUP) vs. Findlay

    Session 2
    6 p.m. - Southern Indiana vs. Augustana
    8:30 p.m. - Kentucky Wesleyan vs. Montevallo
    Saturday, Nov. 4
    Session 3
    12 p.m. - Ferris State vs. Indiana University – Pennsylvania (IUP)
     2:30 p.m. - Findlay vs. St. Thomas Aquinas (STAC)

    Session 4
    6 p.m. - Southern Indiana vs. Kentucky Wesleyan
    8 p.m. - Augustana vs. Montevallo
