SD Mines MBB: Junior College Transfer From Arizona

RAPID CITY, S.D. --- The South Dakota School of Mines men’s basketball program recently received a big boost to the Hardrocker hoops roster with the signing of junior college transfer Jacob Anastasi for the 2017-18 campaign.

Anastasi is a 6-foot-4-inch guard originally from Cave Creek, Ariz., who has been competing the past two years at Pima Community College in Tucson, Ariz.  While playing for the Aztecs this past season, Anastasi was the team captain and averaged 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game. He shot 58 percent from the field and 37 percent from the three-point line.

“Jake is a skilled guard that can play both the point and off-guard spots,” said Hardrocker men’s basketball heads coach Jason Henry. “He is a super leader and a tough competitor. We are thrilled that Jake is joining the Hardrocker Family. It was important that we signed a transfer this season with only three upper classmen on the roster.”

During his high school career, Anastasi played for Cactus Shadows High School (Ariz.), where we was a two-time First Team All-Section recipient.

“We are going to be extremely young this year with some talented freshmen and sophomores,” Henry said. “Jake will help increase that talent, but as important, he will help with college experience and his leadership.”

While attending South Dakota Mines, Anastasi plans to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering.

“I am proud to be a Hardrocker because of the opportunity to obtain a great education while continuing to play the game I love,” Anastasi said.

Founded in 1885, the SD Mines is a science and engineering research university, offering bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. SD Mines offers challenging curriculum, personal attention, and great internships at a price families can afford.
