Mount Marty MBB: Lancer’s Add Two Transfer Guards

YANKTON, South Dakota – [May 15, 2017] – Mount Marty College (MMC) in Yankton, South Dakota, announces the signing of two guards that will join the Lancers this fall.  Logan Fleming from Central Community College in Columbus, NE and Ben Rennie from Lake Region State College in Devils Lake, ND.

Fleming is a 6’ shooting guard who played the past two seasons for Central CC Head Coach Jerry Drymon.  The Polk, NE native helped lead his team to a Region IX Division II Championship this past season.  Fleming led his team in scoring averaging 19 points per game shooting 52% from the field, 43% from 3PT and 87% from the FT line. He also was able to contribute in other areas averaging 6 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1 steal. The all Region IX performer was named team captain and was named Academic All-Region and Academic All-American.  He will rejoin former Central CC teammate and current Lancer guard OJ Thok who was an all-conference performer this past year for MMC.

“Logan is a stud,” said Andrew Baker, MMC head men’s basketball coach. “He is very hardworking young man who has developed his game into what it is today.  He will only continue to get better and will help make an immediate impact next year.”

Fleming was also honored by the community and the school as he was named a co-recipient of the Spirit of Excellence Award.  This award is given annually to a student who is a positive role model while demonstrating exceptional character, integrity, commitment and perseverance.  Fleming shared this award with another student from Central CC who together have built a strong and positive relationship as leaders on campus.

Fleming is the son of Mike and Tammy Fleming from Polk, NE.  He is a 2014 high school graduate of High Plains Community School. Fleming plans to study business administration at Mount Marty College and is the recipient of a Mount Marty College Honor Scholarship as well as a basketball scholarship.

Rennie also has signed with the Lancers after two seasons playing for Head Coach Jared Marshall at Lake Region State College.  The 6’3 guard hails from Adelaide, Australia where he played at Adelaide High School and also played club ball with former Lancer forward Patrick Ciganovic.  While at Lake Region, Rennie averaged 10.5 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists helping his team to a 20-11 record and an appearance in the region tournament.  He started every game he appeared in during his sophomore season shooting 45% from the field, 28% from 3PT and 75% from the FT line.

Coach Baker spoke about his excitement of adding Rennie, “Ben is a great addition for us.  He does a very good job of getting downhill and creating paint touches.  This will lead to good looks for him, our bigs and our 3PT shooters.  He is a tough kid with a great basketball IQ.”

Rennie is the son of Phil and Agnes Rennie from Adelaide, Australia.  A member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, he has proven his academic prowess during his time at Lake Region State College.  Rennie is the recipient of a Mount Marty College Honor Scholarship as well as a basketball scholarship.  He will plan on majoring in Business at MMC starting this fall.
