BHSU MBB: Yellow Jackets Sign Jacob Perkins

SPEARFISH, S.D. - Black Hills State University men's basketball head coach Jeff Trumbauer has announced the addition of Jacob Perkins who signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Yellow Jackets.

Perkins is a 6-9 post player and transfers to BHSU from Shoreline Community College in Shoreline, Washington. As a sophomore at SCC, Perkins averaged 8.1 points and 5.4 rebounds per game while shooting 51 percent from the field.

"Jacob is a key addition to the team," Trumbauer said. "He has all the things you look for in a quality post player; good hands and feet as well as a solid skill set. Additionally, Jacob is a mobile and athletic player. He had a solid rise at the end of the season as he finished the year playing at a very high level. His best basketball is still ahead of him.

"With incoming freshman Jackson Ehrlin, and returning sophomore Antonio Capley, Jacob's experience will be a nice addition to our post rotation."

Perkins ended his sophomore campaign scoring in double-digit points in four out of five games and owned a season-best 17 points against Chemeketa on December 9.

Perkins also competed at Whatcom Community College in 2014-15 where he played in 23 games averaging 10.6 minutes, 3.3 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

Hailing from Edmonds, Washington, the junior-to-be attended Meadowdale High School where scored 222 points his senior season and totaled 367 over his junior and senior seasons.

Perkins is the fifth addition to the 2017-18 recruiting class that includes former Northwest Athletic Conference foes Makaleb McInnis and Dez Stoudamire. Prep standouts Jackson Ehrlin and Trey Winkler have also inked their names to join the Yellow Jackets beginning in the fall.
