    Dutton Field (Rapid City)

Dutton Field, or course, is named after John Dutton of pro football fame. Dutton attended the old Cathedral High school, and played on the field now named for him. Cathedral High closed in 1968, and Dutton went on to lead the Rapid City Cobblers to the state basketball championship the following year.  Dutton Field is now the home field to the St. Thomas More Cavaliers. The wooden benches have been replaced by metal ones and a digital scoreboard sits where the old manual one used to, but otherwise the field with the pea gravel track is like it was in the 1960s.  Opposing teams (sans the Winner Warriors) are often spooked by the ringing of the Angelus bells at 6 p.m. from the nearby Cathedral.

    JOHN DUTTON
    John Dutton
played his Junior year in 1967 for the Cathdreal Gaels. The Gaels were undefeated that season. The school closed in the fall of 1968. Dutton tranferred to Rapid City Central for his Senior season. The football field at STM is named Dutton Field in honor of the former Gael.

Dutton (middle) was named an all conference player his Junior season.
