    Cowgirls by the Numbers

Lemmon sits a long ways from anywhere.  When driving North on 73 it’s hard to believe you are not already in North Dakota by the time you see the lights of town.  That doesn’t matter this week though.  The Home Town Basketball Team is headed to the State B Girls Tournament in Huron this and a caravan of Blue & White will follow.

For those of you who don’t know much about the Lemmon Cowgirls here are a few things you should know.

They racked up a 22-1 record on the way to the State Tournament, losing only a 5pt decision to Beach, ND

Their top 5 players all averaged over 8ppg this year:  Led by Katie Sackman (15ppg) and Bailie Beer (12ppg)

They hit 36% from the 3pt line led again by Katie Sackman who shot an amazing 44% from behind the arc.

Jenna Van Beek at only 5’9” is one of the fiercest rebounders around averaging 10rpg, while 5’10 Kodee Bolte helps out with 8rpg

As a team the Cowgirls averaged 17 steals / game.  I find this stat amazing when most teams don’t turn the ball over that many times a game.  You add 17spg to unforced turnovers the Cowgirls create a ton of extra possessions for an offense that scores 58ppg including playoffs.

I can’t wait until the second game Thursday afternoon in Huron to cheer on a great group of girls.  For those of you who can’t make it east KBJM the Lemmon Radio Station will be broadcasting all the games.  It’s for people not from Lemmon because I don’t think there are going to be very many left in town to listen.

    Good Luck to the COWGIRLS!!!!!
