BHSU MBB: Final Month of Regular Season Action Begins with Adams State and Fort Lewis

    Full Game Notes

THE GAME - Adams State University

    • Adams State enters Friday's play 9-11 overall but 8-6 in RMAC action, sitting in fifth place of the Mountain Division. The Grizzlies defeated Chadron State 94-78 but fell to Regis 74-62 last weekend.
    • Preseason All-RMAC selection Shakir Smith ranks second in the RMAC and leads the team with 22.3 points per game. Kendyl Grover scores 11.9 points while Joe Bell Austin and DJ Morgan score just over 10 per game.
    • In the only meeting last season, Adams State won 68-58 in Spearfish.

THE GAME - Fort Lewis College

    • Winners of their last five games, Fort Lewis enters the weekend 17-3 overall and an RMAC-best 12-3. The Skyhawks were ranked No. 20 in the nation when defeating Regis 92-80 and Chadron State 90-72 last weekend.
    • In a team effort, Joshua Blaylock leads scoring 15.9 points per game. However three others are in double-digit averages with Rasmus Bach at 14.0, Cade Kloster at 12.6 and Will Morse at 12.2 points per game.
    • Fort Lewis claimed victory in the only meeting last season, a 75-63 score in the Young Center.

    • Jeff Trumbauer is in his second season with the Yellow Jackets and owns a 19-29 record at BHSU. Overall, he owns a 114-112 record in his eighth season as a head coach.
    • Adams State is under the direction of former UCCS head coach Russ Caton, in his first year at the helm of the Grizzlies.
    • Bob Pietrack is the interim head coach for the Skyhawks, earning the title in June of 2015 after spending 11 years as an assistant coach under head coach emeritus Bob Hofman. He had served as the associate head coach since 2008 and joined the staff in 2004.

    SCORE 1,000 POINTS?

    • It's not out of the realm of possibility that the Yellow Jackets will have a career 1,000-point scorer on its roster by season's end. Riley Ryan, who is currently averaging 16.6 points per game, needs to average 18.8 points per game over the final 7 regular season games to reach 1,000 career points.

    • Wyatt Krogman has made a habit of sharing the basketball. In 2015-16, the redshirt sophomore has tallied 4.7 assists per game, a pace that would give him the second best season for assists in school history. Krogman is chasing Josh McNames who had 232 assists during the 1997-98 season.

    • For the first time in 2015-16, the Black Hills State men's basketball team will play a ranked opponent. Fort Lewis is ranked No. 15 in the NABC Coaches' Poll and No. 18 in the D2SIDA Media Poll. Last year, the Yellow Jackets faced ranked opponents in six games. The Yellow Jackets nearly upset then No. 12 UCCS and No. 11 MSU Denver, falling by a combined three points. Black Hills State is looking for its first win against a ranked opponent since joining NCAA Division II.

    • Black Hills State hosts Parents Night on Saturday night. The men will give a thanks and salute to their parents before the start of the game.

    • Black Hills State will hold a Round Ball Reunion on February 13, including a recognition of the 1975-76 and 1996-96 Yellow Jacket basketball teams who are celebrating their 40th and 20th anniversaries of conference championships, respectively
